Nathanial H. Duck
Christian Certified Physical Fitness Instructor, Dstar Productions
Mr. Duck was born and raised in the Homewood area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Some years ago Mr. Duck was well known for his outstanding abilities in playing basketball, but would now prefer being recognized for his Health and Fitness Ministry. I quote Mr. Duck as saying, “This is my ministry. The lord gave me a vision as a young man that, I would have a family, be involved in community leadership and play a role in neighborhood outreach ministries at church.”

In pursuit of these goals, Mr. Duck received an Associates Degree in LCCC Junior College for Physical Education and Communications. He then started his Health and Fitness ministry as a Youth Fitness Program Director in 1977.

Mr. Duck’s career evolved through time and diligence. He is presently an Expert Personal Trainer at Fitness 19, an Athletic Director for Hosanna House, a Physical Education Fitness Coach for Healthy Black Families Project and a Fitness Instructor for Silver Sneakers. He also volunteers his time in shelters several days a week in the Allegheny area of Pittsburgh. Though he possess a very rigorous schedule, he still finds time to be a committed husband and father to his children of four.

I quote Mr. Duck as saying, “there is no secret to good health; there is a process.”

Start with the following fundamentals:
  • Physical Fitness 3 or 4 days per week, which involves stretching, aerobics and body toning.
  • Hydrate your body with water and alter your eating habits by incorporating nutritional fundamentals.
  • Get plenty of rest, to regenerate your body.
There is no age limit, some health conditions, may exclude physical exertion.

In conclusion, Mr. Duck is an inspiration to both, young and old, male and female alike. His wealth of knowledge and experience, combined with his words of encouragement, wisdom and love for God, has proven him to be a positive role model for the African American community and to anyone who comes in contact with him. Mr. Duck is committed to helping others to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is conveyed through his training.

Talking Points:
  • Professional Personal Fitness Trainer- Since 1991 my involvement and impact to the fitness field started with my son and 3 daughters. Developing them as young athletes allowed me to reflect on my own athletic history. Directing them through their athletic growth from grade school to college introduced me to several different training opportunities. Along the way, I have been certified to
    Nathaniel at Golden Warriors
provide physical education direction for children from age 3 to seniors age 103.
  • Golden Warriors Chair Aerobics Program - In 2000 the program was created to help circulate, stimulate, and mentally challenge clients who have restrictions such as wheelchair, walker, and cane dependency. With my instruction, our clients experience physical exertion on the lowest level, rhythmic calisthenics, stretching with strong emphasis on developing better range of motion. The exercise session is 60 minutes long, broken down into 15 minute segments to include warm up, rhythmic calisthenics, rehydration break, mental stimulation tests (muscle enlightenment), nutritional development, cool down. This program has been well received in the retirement community.
  • Fitness Explosion Exercise Sessions - The history of this program dates back to 1995, and was created for Grandmothers & Granddaughters, Uncles & Nephews, Mothers & Daughters, Fathers and sons to bridge the gap between the generations using fitness as our vehicle. Currently running 3 times a week, Monday, Wednesday, & Friday, this program is an hour long for neighborhood family interaction. Churches and recreation centers have had great success with this physical education development program. Stretching, hand weights, tubal exercise bands with handles, rhythmic calisthenics, and aerobics are all components of this particular athletic fitness program.
  • Heatwave Fitness Program - Developed in 2005, this exercise program has been designed to fight childhood obesity. The curriculum is a group training coed project ages 3 to 7 and 8 to 13. Music is used as our vehicle to attract and keep the youth engaged in these sessions. The primary purpose of this project is to educate and interact with the family unit by providing direction and activities related to weight loss and better nutrition. Daycares, after school programs, summer vacation bible schools are having increased enrollment because of this physical education project.
  • Dstar Productions - Founded in 1991, the original concept of Dstar Productions was for my 4 children to develop the reality of the balance between hard work and the value of a dollar, Athletic clinics were used as our vehicle, such as basketball, track & field, flag football to name a few. My children were my staff, as a father, I wanted them to earn money to buy what they wanted and to appreciate what they have. In the name Dstar Productions are the initials of my 4 children's names, Dominique, my youngest, Sophia, my oldest, Tamika, the Mother of my two wonderful grandchildren, and Robert my son. The A is because they were achievers throughout their scholastic years. And none of this would have been achievable without the nurturing of their mother Collette.
Entrepreneur Tip:
Stay committed to yourself and your product/service, believe in what first directed you to this path. Allow your spirituality to guide you towards your goals and aspirations.

Consumer Tip:
Please understand that there's a balance between exercise and nutritional development.  In order to raise your physical fitness level, you must develop both.

face of the immigrant businesswoman who creates her own opportunities and is not bound by traditional typecasting.

I extend my purposeful work to include community outreach and involvement to foster my reach and influence. Valerie Price
Founder, Inventor, CEO and President, Blazer's Blankets
Valerie L. Davis, was raised in Stowe Township, Pennsylvania. She is known throughout her community for her multiple talents and love spread on the streets for youth of all age groups. She has become a role model and has mentored young women, young men, teens and children with her sense of fashion and style and brought her creativity to them to encourage, uplift and build their esteem, to teach them how to dress in a modest manner. She has even purchased clothing and accessories for those in need. Not only does she have a gift in the area of fashion for all ages, but she also spreads her fashion towards the breastfeeding mother.

Her new sense of style for the breastfeeding mother began in 1999 when her nephew was born.   He, of course, was a breastfed baby. Seeing the struggles she had to endure to find the intimacy desired for me and my baby during feedings, Valerie, my sister, wanted to come up with something to encourage mothers to have a desire to breastfeed and not give up on the embarrassing moments that could happen in public while attempting to breastfeed a baby! Finally, an answer all mothers have been waiting for, a breastfeeding blanket designed to give us peace!

Valerie’s idea was presented to her family in a meeting held in her home. She created a Board of Directors for her soon-to-be exploding company which she called “Balzer’s Blankets.” Another nephew could not pronounce her name “Valerie” so he called her “Balzer.” Therefore, her company acquired the name from this unforgettable moment of her bond with a nephew. With the multiple talents in our family, and God the center of our lives, we believed all things are possible with God on our side! We knew some day it would be a success Valerie started gathering materials and sowing her blankets. One special blanket was sold to a church member whose son was nicknamed “Bonky.” He embraced the blanket long after breastfeeding and the idea for the name of the blanket was discovered! “Balzer’s Blankets” made “My Bonky.” Her company name and her blanket were named and created from her bond with those children.

In 2008, “My Bonky” received a patent. Our family-owned business and dream was closer than ever. As a sister and executive writer on the Board of Directors for “Balzer’s Blanket,” I am honored to share Valerie’s story with you. Not only is she talented in the fashion sense, from 1998-2003, she demonstrated her athletic ability as a coach for the Sto-Rox Girls’ Basketball team. She has also served in the church in the area of Ministry of Helps. She loves working with children and is an inspiration to her own nieces and nephews.

Talking Points:
  • My Bonky Breastfeeing Blanket provides privacy, security and comfort for the breastfeeding mother and infant.
  • My bonky presents a durable dual patent pending garment to fill a niche by providing a useful made in America breastfeeding blanket. This antimicrobial breastfeeding blanket will provides privacy, security and comfort during the breastfeeding process to the mother and infant. The blankets unique, original design is aimed at insuring personal intimacy while eliminating any obstacles during the breastfeeding process. My bonky can also be used as a burping cloth, it's large enough to use as a protective layer between infant and any surface and to wrap the baby in for warmth.
  • The blankets are made out of quality durable antimicrobial material which will last far beyond the tender years. This useful dual blanket is machine washable and can be easily stored in the bonky carry along bag and/or rolled and tied for travel. Moreover, the blankets come in a variety of light weight/quilted cloths and colors that will help stimulate the infants sight; which makes the bonky the perfect companion for breastfeeding mother’s year round.
  • I accepted a request from my sister in law asking to come up with something to enable her to perform all the task of nursing while in public/work. I came up with the MULTI functional, hands free My Bonky nursing blanket/Daddy Bag. I never though of it as a business. I made them and gave them out to people who requested them in churches and to friends for shower gifts. Someone suggested to me to sell them and start my own business. I got it patented and I received alot of assistance from local small business centers in Pgh. My nephew couldn't say my name when he was little so he called me Balzer. Hence the name "Balzer's Blanket". We are a growing company that has the concern of supporting the natural method of infant feeding and encouraging infants first immunization to be from a natural source. We will continue to create efficient tools for aiding with the healthy growth of children.
  • I first started this as a helpful niche and then got into the significant health need, benefits to mom and baby and the financial side of nursing. I started to promote nursing/benefits to help make it easier for moms with Mid Wives Center for Birth and Health, LeLeche League, Brenda Upsher's Family Daycare. We also give back to the Strong Start program for under privileged moms with The Midwives Center. I noticed that moms need items that serve more than one purpose so its not a use it for a week or two and give it away/throw it away.
