Pittsburgh makes CareerGuide101.com’s "Best Jobs" “CareerGuide101.com is a site dedicated to offering information to assist people in career transitions. The site shares career and interview advice, job postings, job fairs, etc. Pittsburgh joins the list with Seattle, WA, Dallas, TX, Richmond, VA, Baltimore, MD, Milwaukee, WI and Washington, D.C. Pittsburgh makes the list according to CareerGuide101 despite our lost of manufacturing jobs and a jump in our unemployment rate from 3.9% to 5%.
Pittsburgh made the list because of our solid industries: healthcare, government and education. Listed as kind of second tier industries are banking and technology. Credit is given specifically to UPMC, Pittsburgh’s largest employer. One look on any of the job posting sites such as Monster, CareerBuilder or Hotjobs will substantiate these are companies showing job growth despite our economy.

The Samuel J Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in memory of my son Samuel Jacob Johnson. The Foundation is dedicated to honoring Sam’s bright spirit and brave heart by giving children with brain tumors hope for a cure, bringing smiles into the lives of children with all types of pediatric cancers and their families, and supporting the needs of children with developmental disabilities. The Foundation is managed by a volunteer board of directors, and 100% of the net profits from our fundraising programs benefits the children and families we serve.
Fifth Annual “Sam’s Summer Splash” fundraiser at Scott Township Pool on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 6:30 PM . We are looking for businesses to either financially sponsor this event or provide food and drinks for our guests. We are also looking for any children's entertainers (balloon artists, costumed characters, etc.), that would be interested in supporting us with their time and talent. Our attendance is typically 200+ people. Our goal is to offset all of our expenses so we can use 100% of our revenues to benefit the children, families and institutions we support. In exchange for your support, we would place your business name/logo on our website, as well as on promotional materials for this event. Proceeds from this event will be used to support our Sam’s Snack Wagon program for children with cancer and their families at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

BYHAM THEATER

Lokua Kanza, one of the most accomplished Congolese recording artists on the scene is on a rare US tour with his band. Lokua Kanza is a prolific singer, songwriter, and composer known for his soulful folksy sound, unusual in the land of Soukous. Lokua's music incorporates many natural sounds from the Congo rainforest including the symphonic chants of the pygmies as well as his own pop melancholic acoustic style of Soukous Music. He has worked and performed with the top names in the business such as Siedah Garrett, Lamont Dozier, Papa Wemba, Manu Dibango, Youssou N’Dour, and Angélique Kidjo to name a few. He also made a special appearance on Saturday Night live with Natalie Merchant.

Featuring WACONGO Dance Company, a traditional performing arts group from the Democratic Republic of Congo, this concert series aims to promote awareness and raise funds for the tens of thousand women and girls in conflict zones who are kidnapped, tortured, brutally raped and sexually enslaved daily in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s intractable civil war.
