Public Allies Pittsburgh, a program of Coro Pittsburgh and Public Allies National Office, is a proud member of the AmeriCorps national service network. Since 2006, Public Allies Pittsburgh has connected over 200 diverse young leaders to opportunities to serve communities throughout Southwestern PA. Applications are being accepted for the 2015-2016 program year, operating from September 2015 through June 2016.
Over the 10-month duration of the program, Public Allies Pittsburgh places participants in full-time, paid apprenticeships at local nonprofit organizations, provides weekly skill-building and leadership development trainings, as well as one-on-one professional development coaching. In addition, smaller teams of Allies combine their time and talents to plan and execute a service project that addresses a common concern, determined by building consensus among the group and community members.
Allies will use their new leadership skills to help strengthen the organizations they are placed with, as well as connect to leaders and organizations in their community to help address real issues. In addition, Public Allies receive a monthly stipend of $1,400, access to health care and child care, student loan deferment, and an education award of $5,730 after completing the program to pay back student loans or pay for future education. Applicants must be at least 17 years old, have a high school diploma or G.E.D. by 9/2015, and be eligible to work in the U.S.
The program application is due May 15th. Ideal candidates should display a commitment to practicing our Core Values: Diversity & Inclusion, Focusing on Assets, Collaboration, Continuous Learning, and Integrity. More information on Public Allies can be found HERE.
