The deep thoughts provoked by Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land began buzzing about the theater, as the lights faded ever so slowly to black. Applause rose and standing ovations were given as the audience paused to contemplate their experience, before exiting the Stephen Foster Memorial on Saturday night. The preview was prelude to discussions about life, success, aging, complacency and surrender.
No Man’s Land, presented by the Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre, gives a glimpse into the lives of 4 men. Hirst is an alcoholic and once successful writer who has met the acquaintance of a not so successful poet, spooner. Hirst, despite his success, has been sinking into an existence that can hardly be considered life. He is accompanied by two servants, Foster and Briggs who make no effort to save him from himself. Spooner desiring to rescue him for reasons that could be both selfish and selfless presents himself as a former acquaintance, fellow writer, and then as a willing friend. A strange web of memories, delusions, reality and fantasy ensues and the four men inevitably succumb to their existence "in no man's land. Which never moves, which never changes, which never grows older, but which remains forever icy and silent."
The performance was a journey that brought laughter and sympathy while making no attempt to answer the questions it raised, leaving a sense of solemn wonder. Rick McMillan as Spooner suspended suspicion in his motives yet empathy toward his lot in life. Sam Tsoutsouvas as Hirst easily evoked sadness and marvel at what he once was and what he had come to be. Their use of British accent and the honest portrayal of fear in body language that remained true to each character greatly complimented the story.
The complexity of such a play filled with themes that are perhaps not meant to be fully understood but indeed acknowledged, is no easy production. Yet this production of No Man’s Land is a well executed tale of a place between life and death, reality and pretense, memories and deceit.

Teamwork, dedication, commitment, a sense of community and giving back, that's what makes Kids and a Cause successful. Six girls, ranging in age from 10 to 15, devote many weekends, years now, designing their products to be sold at events like Women Think Pink in order to raise money for the Hillman Cancer Patient Assistance Fund, $9000 to date. They come as a package, Kathryn Bissert, Kelsie Bissert, Katie Derrick, Sarah Derrick, Heidi Schmidt, Heather Schmidt. Six girls on a mission to give back and make cancer patient care a little easier for those who are unable to afford the basic necessities during their recovery . They work well together, have fun together continue to learn how to run a successful business from their very accomplished and equally dedicated parents, and most importantly, how to make a spoon stick to their nose without falling off, an admirable accomplishment
I am proud to know Kathryn, Heidi, Katie, Kelsie, Heather and Sarah and so it is with great pride and hope that I nominate Kids and A Cause for consideration for NAWBO’s Make the Connection award.

Canonsburg-Based Aquatech Awarded Seawater Desalination and Industrial Water Reuse Projects in Egypt
Canonsburg-based Aquatech has been awarded a contract to design and supply a seawater desalination system for the Abu Qir Thermal Power Plant in Egypt.
The client, West Delta Electricity Production Co., specified Aquatech’s Multiple Effect Distillation (MED) technology for uninterrupted water supply to boilers after carefully studying all available desalination technology options, the company said.

The company said it wanted to be close to its North American belting product manufacturing facilities in both Ohio and Canada, as well as to key locations in newly acquired service businesses – including Conveyor Service Corporation in Blairsville, Indiana County, which it acquired last year – and major customer regions.

Crystal Observatory at Vanadium Woods, St. Barnabas
Crystal Conservatories, a striking piece of architecture springing lightly from the western Pennsylvania countryside (figure 1). It was a highly engineered, glass-enclosed structure that would allow St. Barnabas residents and visitors from nearby Valencia and Gibsonia to relax, swim, and rehabilitate using aquatherapy and various other modalities. The structure is, in fact, a product of a company called Blue Diamond Conservatories, which is marketing it in customizable configurations nationally.
What first caught my attention for this sort of structure was the massive Crystal Cathedral that Rev. Robert H. Schuller constructed in California some years ago. But there they were working with a 40-degree temperature swing, versus a seemingly 100-degree swing in "beautiful downtown" Valencia.

Regina Carter's Reverse Thread
Traverse the globe with internationally acclaimed jazz violinist Regina Carter as she and her quartet perform pieces from her Paganini project and music from Mali, Senegal and Uganda. Carter brings audiences to their feet with a musical style Time magazine called "probingly intelligent" and "breathtakingly daring." This concert is presented in partnership with MCG Jazz.

Crystal Observatory at Vanadium Woods, St. Barnabas
Crystal Conservatories, a striking piece of architecture springing lightly from the western Pennsylvania countryside (figure 1). It was a highly engineered, glass-enclosed structure that would allow St. Barnabas residents and visitors from nearby Valencia and Gibsonia to relax, swim, and rehabilitate using aquatherapy and various other modalities. The structure is, in fact, a product of a company called Blue Diamond Conservatories, which is marketing it in customizable configurations nationally.
What first caught my attention for this sort of structure was the massive Crystal Cathedral that Rev. Robert H. Schuller constructed in California some years ago. But there they were working with a 40-degree temperature swing, versus a seemingly 100-degree swing in "beautiful downtown" Valencia.
