In 1889, Mollie Austin asked her husband James if he knew of a better rug cleaner, James decided to make his own cleaner. After many versions, and Mollie's approval Austin's Carpet Cleaner was born. Cooking the formula on the kitchen stove, James sold his product out of his Pittsburgh, PA grocery store.
